Angola's ambition is to lead global diamond production by 2030, but it faces significant challenges in the face of competitors such as Russia and Botswana. Despite currently accounting for 9 per cent of world production, the country needs strategic and efficient investments to achieve its goal.
While Russia and Botswana are optimising resources and diversifying their strategies, Angola is still investing in unprofitable mines, compromising crucial resources. Endiama, Angola's state-owned company, needs to adopt new technologies and prioritise efficiency to compete globally.
Botswana stands out for its diversification and robust financial support, including a recent 300 million dollar credit line for the state-owned ODC. Angola, on the other hand, is struggling financially and lacks a favourable environment for innovation and strengthening the value chain.
To achieve leadership, a transformation in Angolan management and investment will be essential, with a focus on profitability, innovation and strategic partnerships.
